The Southwest Laundry is on 70th and the Loop. It pre-dates almost everything around it. It's huge and bright, and there's even a clock built-in to the paneling above the dryers. I like that clock. It hints at the way doing your laundry is tied in with the passing of time, and with your own meager span of days. It's also a humanistic gesture, one of those generous acts of design-- a nice clock, a comfortable chair-- that somehow ennobles us, even when we're doing stuff that doesn't seem too noble.
